Despite Security Challenges, Humanitarian Efforts are Having a Positive Effect on Extreme Hunger in Boko Haram Affected Areas of Nigeria (For the Media)

In 2017, the World Food Programme and partners, under the leadership of the Nigerian government, managed to stave off famine in three conflict affected northeastern states. New data shows that the situation for extremely vulnerable families, while still very fragile, has improved further in the past six months due to sustained humanitarian assistance. WFP, however, remains concerned about the situation for families in areas that humanitarian assistance remains inaccessible due to insecurity.

As of March, 2.3 million people people will need some form of food assistance in the three states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe in Nigeria’s northeast.
