WFP in Numbers


A total of 80 million people in 75 countries were reached by WFP assistance in 2013

Of which,

  • 67.9 million are women and children
  • 4.2 million are refugees
  • 8.9 million are Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
  • 1.3 million are affected by HIV/AIDS

Focus On Children

  • 7.8 million malnourished children receiving specialised nutritional support
  • Undernutrition was reduced or stabilised for 7.2 million children under the age of 5
  • 18.6 million children reached through School Meals projects, 49% of which are girls
  • 3 million pregnant women of nursing mothers receive additional nutritional support

Project Achievements 

  • Levels of acute malnutrition stabilised or fell in 90% of projects
  • 3.1 million metric tons of food was delivered to hungry people
  • 86% of food was purchased in developing countries
  • 15.1 million people received food as an incentive to build assets or attend training
  • US$150 million income generated for farmers in Purchase For Progress Program
  • 64% annual growth rate in Cash and Voucher activities over the past 5 years
