A Message from Paul Tergat...
Hi, this is Paul Tergat, Kenyan Marathon Champion and Ambassador Against Hunger for World Food Programme. I just wanted to write a quick post to say how much I support the WFP's initiative in creating a website for students and teachers. The problem of global hunger is one which is all too often ignored, yet it is a problem which can be solved - and young people will be the ones to solve it!
By learning about the issues and taking action, we can make a difference. And it's not just about money - we need to raise awareness, and through our actions, make the world sit up and take notice! 59 million schoolchildren go to school hungry , yet it costs just 25 cents per day to make sure that a child receives a nourishing meal at school. I know what a difference School Feeding makes - WFP began a school feeding programme in my village when I was eight years old, and thanks to them I can look back and be proud of what I have been able to achieve both as an athlete and as a human being.
Each of us we have a potential that needs to be unlocked and without proper food kids cannot pursue their dreams.
So - use the site, learn about the issues, but above all - spread the word and get involved! The world's hungry need your help.
