The event was attended by Carlos La Torre Bel, on behalf of Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Iván Bottger from the World Food Programme (WFP), Matilde Pulgar from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Daisy Gómez from the Regional Government shared their experiences in a panel with Felice Cosentino, Mayor of Alto Nanay; Fredy Quinteros of the Roundtable for Poverty Reduction; Luis Rodríguez of the Regional Government; Olmex Escalante, president of the Facilitators Network of Farmers Field Schools and Dante Tamichi Ruíz, representative of the community of Rumococha.
The national coordinator of the Joint Programme, Celeste Cambría, presented a summary of the activities and results obtained in the Loreto Region, and welcomed the active participation of the regional and local governments of Loreto. In addition, Cambría welcomed the civil society, motivating them to continue promoting actions aimed at the comprehensive development of children in the region. He also highlighted the work of the regional team of the Joint Programme and the United Nations’ inter-agency work.
Meanwhile, the AECID representative referred to the value of sustainability in this type of international cooperation process, making it clear that the methodologies and contributions are appropriate for agencies of the state at all levels.
Iván Bottger (WFP) and Matilde Pulgar (UNODC) highlighted the different actions carried out by the aforementioned agencies within the framework of the Joint Programme and stated that the United Nations will continue to work in Loreto to contribute to the development of the region.
The experiences panel emphasized the great importance of working together –national, regional and local governments, the civil society and the community—in order to truly achieve progress in the region and to improve the poverty, malnutrition and food insecurity indicators of the most vulnerable population.
On behalf of the regional government, Daysi Gómez thanked all the support of the Joint Programme and expressed commitment to continue working to improve the nutrition and food security of the families and communities in Loreto.
