The five winners will travel to the nation’s capital, Tegucigalpa, in order to accept the award during a Gala in the Morazán Salon of the Presidential Residence, where the winning artists will be the guests of honour.
These little artists, who have the honour of representing their Departments, have been scheduled to attend numerous events to celebrate their new role as the most important artists in Honduras. The children are all beneficiaries of WFP’s School Feeding Programme, implemented in over 22,000 schools nationally.
The winners of the National Drawing Contest are:
“For our government, one of our top priorities is the children of Honduras, and holding this type of event (one that strengthens their artistic abilities and love for their country) is very important. They are 5 national artists that will be representing their Departments; many of them from remote communities of our country, and most of them have never even been to Tegucigalpa, so it is an amazing opportunity to share with them, their parents, and their teachers. A special moment that I’m sure will leave a lasting mark on the lives and will give them the certitude that when one has a dream, and if one studies and puts a lot of effort into it, anything is possible”, said Ana de Hernández, First Lady of Honduras.
“Children love to draw and at BANPAIS we are very interested in facilitating events like this one that generate so many opportunities for the children, opportunities that our institution backs up because young talent deserves the space to be in the spotlight and to be admired”, emphasized Nidia Manzanares Leon, Social Responsibility Coordinator of BANPAIS.
This is the first contest held nationally and the five winners will join a contest that WFP will be holding in which boys and girls in 70 countries all over the world will be competing for one of 12 winning spots.
