Honduras: WFP Supports the Institutional Strengthening of ICF

WFP Representative, Pasqualina Di Sirio, met with the Ministry Director of the Forest Conservation Institute (IFC), José Trinidad Suazo Bulnes, in order to strengthen the actions that IFC and WFP are developing together, through their Agro-Forestry and Climate Change Resilience Programme.

TEGUCIGALPA. –This programme is implemented through ICF in 45 municipalities in the dry departments of Choluteca, Valle, Francisco Morazán, El Paraiso, and La Paz. Its purpose is to generate social safety networks that involve provisional food transfers in areas where there is a lack of food security. Due to the harsh and arid climate of these departments the programme carries out a number of developmental activities. These activities were implemented to assist in generating assets. The protection of water sources, land conservation, water, and reforestation including nurseries of agroforestry plants, plantations of fruit/forestry trees, and family orchards are the target areas of these activities.
During the visit, the WFP representative contributed two vehicles and office equipment valued at more than US$25,000. The minister Suazo Bulnes was grateful for the donation. As were the employees of IFC, who lost all of their work equipment in a devastating fire that consumed the IFC facilities last April.
