SAN SALVADOR. --For the third year in a row, Pizza Hut kicks off its nationwide “Muévete Conmigo” (Move with Me) annual fundraising campaign to support the reduction of child malnutrition in El Salvador.
Pizza Hut staff will actively participate in “Muévete Conmigo” to raise funds for the “Nourishing El Salvador” project, which is managed and implemented by the UN World Food Programme (WFP). “Nourishing El Salvador” covers more than 36 municipalities in El Salvador, which according to the WFP Hunger Map, has the highest percentage of children under 2 years and pregnant and lactating mothers suffering from malnutrition.
To raise fund for the project, Pizza Hut staff will promote and sell bumper stickers, magnets, bracelets and T-shirts with the image of Puch among customers visiting restaurants, food courts, and shopping malls.
Staff will also ask customers to sign up for the upcoming "Puch Marathon" on 1 September. Runners of the marathon will receive a "Puch Combo", which comes with a personal pan pizza and a soft drink, so that children who participate can go to the restaurant and enjoy
Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut Representative, Roxana Monroy, said they are happy to share with the Salvadoran community the challenge of raising funds and helping to feed so many children and women who need to improve their nutrition.
Global support to WFP operations worldwide date back to 2009 when Yum! Brands, which operates Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC, contributed US$1 million to WFP. Monroy also thanked the people of El Salvador for their support to this fundraising effort and to the Puch Marathon in previous two years, and again invited them to collaborate so the poorest people in those 36 municipalities receive a proper nutrition.
WFP is the largest United Nations humanitarian agency which works to eradicate hunger and malnutrition. WFP Representative in El Salvador, Dorte Ellehammer, said WFP gratefully acknowledges the continued and growing commitment of Pizza Hut in El Salvador and its vigorous support to WFP’s efforts to fight hunger and malnutrition among the poorest population. Ellehammer invited Salvadoran families to join the Puch Marathon on 1 September which promotes among children the value of solidarity especially among small children.
