School Feeding - Beneficiaries

Mauritania, Boghe, June 2006

WFP school feeding at Seno Boussobe primary school, near Boghe, Mauritania.

WFP also works to provide school meals across Mauritania, to encourage parents to send their children to primary school – especially their daughters. The school at Seno Bousobé has had particular success – of the 354 students, 202 are girls. The students receive two meals each day – an early morning porridge and a lunch time meal (pictured here). “WFP’s work plays a very important role in the life of this school,” says deputy headmaster Thiam Amadou Tijani. “Before, there were some children who were not able to follow the lessons because they come from poor families but since the schools meals have started their situation has improved. When the child is in class he is happy because he knows that at the end of it he is going to get something to eat.”
