Yemen: Food assistance for IDPs

 Some 18,000 internally displaced people live in the Al Mazraq camp in Hajja Governorate of northwestern Yemen. They depend on food aid.

A quarter million civilians have been displaced by the conflict in northern Yemen. WFP has now reached 215,000 with food assistance.

Of the 250,000 civilians displaced by the conflict in northern Yemen, about 50,000 are under the age of five.

 More than half of all children under age five are chronically malnourished - 2.6 million children (according to UNICEF State of the World’s Children). And more than 1 in 10 suffers from acute malnourishment.

WFP continues to face a serious funding shortfall in all of its Yemen programmes which are 75% under-resourced for the first six months of 2010.
