Recent droughts in the Horn of Africa have severely affected the pastoralist communities of Djibouti. The people of this region -- where the climate is largely unsuited to crop production -- often are forced to sell their animals and other assets in order to buy food.  The urban section of the population is also vulnerable to high food prices, since much of what they rely on is imported. WFP is assisting almost 70,000 people through food distributions and food-for-work activities, which aim to make communities more self sufficient.
