Walk the World 2010
In Jordan, walkers braved the blazing summer heat in the ancient city of Jerash.
For the first time this year, a walk was held in Iraq, in the northern city of Erbil in the Kurdistan region.
In the USA, walkers in New York made a generous donation to WFP’s school meal programmes.
The biggest walk was held in Burkina Faso, where bout 20,000 walked in the nation’s capital Ouagadougou, led by the First Lady Chantal Compaore.
Walk the World took place on 6 June across all 24 time zones of the globe. The walk aims to raise awareness and funds for WFP’s school meals programmes, through the support of WFP’s partners in the private sector: TNT, DSM and Unilever. Now in its 8th year, the Walk has mobilised some 2 million people since its inception.
