WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran went to Pakistan at the end of August to survey areas devastated by the flooding and meet with victims who had lost their homes and loved-ones, and were relying on food assistance for survival. Her trip included a tour of the flood zone with UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, with whom she later issued a joint statement calling on the international community to step its support for the relief effort.
