Food Security Survey for Risk Areas in Senegal

Due to a late and erratic rainy season, crop production from the 2011/2012 harvest is low. It is down 36% compared to last year and down 20% compared to the 5-year average. Groundnuts, Senegal's main cash crop, have also seen sharp declines - production is down 59% compared to last year and 31% down from the 5-year average.

To assess the household food security in Senegal, the Senegal government and WFP in collaboration with some NGOs including OXFAM America and World Vision undertook a mission to 85 risk areas in February 2012.
