As large numbers of Syrians continue to flee their homes, the WFP strives to make sure that these refugees' urgent food needs are being met as they enter neighboring countries, and camps like Zaatari, by providing food vouchers, hot meals, and family food baskets.
An emergency operation is underway to meet the urgent food needs of 35,000 Syrians refugees like these who fled to Jordan. With other host communities in northern Jordan, WFP plans to reach 70,000 total refugees by the end of the year.
For the children at the Zaatari camp, receiving a hot meal like this one at lunchtime can be invaluable. These children are receiving high-energy biscuits, fortified cookies often used in the days following an emergency situation. The biscuits can be tailored to meet a certain country's needs, and can be made with local ingredients when possible.
