Metro TV, one of Indonesia's leading news channel, visited Bikekneno village in NTT province to do a special coverage on how WFP projects support the government's initiatives towards achieving food security.
Like many areas in NTT - the poorest province in Indonesia - the villagers of Bikekneno are food insecure because of the long dry season which makes it difficult to produce sufficient food throughout the year. Moreover, extreme weather conditions coupled with limited access to clean drinking water are causing high levels of under-nutrition in the community.
Metro TV crew films villagers as they work on their communal land.
Bikekneno is one of the villages where WFP implements its Food for Assets (FFA) programme. Due to poor agricultural practices such as "slash and burn", the land around the village has been deforested. Through FFA, the community receives training on sustainable agricultural practices as well as food assistance in exchange for their work on their community assets during the lean season.
Senior journalist, Desi Anwar, interviews Myrta Kaulard, WFP Indonesia Country Director, on WFP's operations in the country and how its assistance is designed to address the issue of chronic malnutrition and food insecurity in Indonesia.
