This Operation has been modified as per Budget Revision 8 (see below).

This budget revision to Emergency Operation (EMOP) 200298 ‘Emergency food assistance to the non-refugee population in the Gaza Strip’ proposes to: temporarily provide food and voucher assistance to an additional 380,000 conflict affected persons following the escalation of conflict starting in July 2014; and,  increase the budget by US$ 47,619,761, to include: a corresponding additional 26,190 MT in food transfers, valued at US$ 32,800,142; and no additional value-based voucher transfers valued at US$ 5,450,000

This budget increase and extension-in-time to Emergency Operation (EMOP) 200298  Emergency food assistance to the non-refugee population in the Gaza Strip’ proposes to:  extend the operation from 1 July to 31 December 2014, while maintaining the same activities and number of beneficiaries (285,000); increase the budget by USD 22,276,801, to include: o a corresponding additional 20,244 MT in food transfers, valued at USD9,737,638; and, no additional value-based voucher transfers valued at USD4,554,000.

Six decades of political instability, four years of blockade and major destruction of private and public property during military confrontations, have led to the disintegration of the productive economy in the Gaza Strip. Over 50 percent of people in Gaza are unable to meet their daily food requirements without support due to few employment opportunities, low incomes and limited economic access to food. In spite of a partial relaxation on import restrictions since June 2010, an ongoing ban on exports and on some imports has hampered recovery and improvements in 2011, and food insecurity levels are likely to persist throughout 2012.
