Despite the insecurity in the village of Wantiguera , children are still attending school and WFP provides them with a meal before they go back home. School meals are powerful drives to keep children in education despite extreme levels of poverty.
A crowd awaits for the start of food distribution in Wantiguera. Amongst them are people who have recently returned to their home after the fighting and other who have found refuge there from nearby villages and small towns after walking for several days across the bush.
Walking home with the bag of 25 kg of maize, part of a one-month ration that also included lentils, vegetable and salt. ‘I am so pleased to have oil, I will prepare a nice meal’, said one elderly woman who has recently spent two month hiding in the bush.
