WFP Statement On Northern Rakhine State

30 August 2017

WFP is aware of new photographs circulating on social media of WFP-branded high energy biscuits and WFP-marked food bags which were allegedly found at various sites in Maungdaw Township. WFP takes any allegations of food diversions very seriously and considers any manipulation of food assistance destined for needy families as theft. WFP is currently unable to access its usual operational sites and warehouses with food stocks in the northern part of Rakhine State and has not been able to distribute food and cash assistance in the area since mid-July. Regarding photos of WFP biscuits that have appeared in the media since 30 July, WFP has requested more details from the Myanmar authorities about the food in question in order to trace the supply batch and investigate the matter further. These details have not yet been provided. WFP continues to offer the authorities its full cooperation.
