WFP Hosts Google+ Hangout On Humanitarian Operations In Syria

ROME – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is today providing journalists and the online public with a unique opportunity to hear the latest on food relief operations in Syria from a senior staff member who has spent the last five days in Homs, Yabroud and Damascus.

WFP’s Abeer Etefa will provide an update on operations and take questions via a Google+ Hangout from the Syrian capital at 18.00 Rome time (12:00 EST / 16:00 GMT). The event will be broadcast live on WFP’s Google+ page as well as on YouTube.

A small group of bloggers and journalists will participate in the Hangout directly. Others will be able to submit questions to Etefa either on Google+ or via Twitter, using the hashtag #wfpsyria.

Abeer Etefa is WFP’s Spokeswoman and Senior Regional Public Information Officer for the Middle East & North Africa region. Before joining WFP, she was the spokeswoman for UN High Commissioner for Refugees covering the same region. She spent six-years working for the BBC and ABC News as a TV field producer.  You can follow her tweets on @AbeerEtefa.

WFP is currently providing emergency food assistance to around 1 million vulnerable people inside Syria and plans to scale up to 1.5 million in the coming month. It is also assisting tens of thousands of families who have fled Syria to Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
