WFP Executive Director Travels To New York Ahead Of The UN General Assembly

NEW YORK – The Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Ertharin Cousin is travelling to New York on Sunday, 22 September, ahead of the 68th UN General Assembly, starting next week.

During a five-day visit, Cousin will meet with high-level UN officials, government leaders, private sector partners and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for strategic discussions on hunger, nutrition, food security and development. Topics that will take center stage include WFP’s work in emergencies including Syria and the Sahel; accelerating action on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); a sustainable development agenda post-2015; and safety and security for humanitarian personnel and the people they serve throughout the world. The critical role of nutrition in efforts to end hunger will be highlighted in a reception co-hosted by WFP, its partner Royal DSM and the NGO World Vision. Cousin will also participate in a panel at the Social Good Summit focusing on the “Zero Hunger Challenge : Small Act, Big Impact.” In addition, she will serve as a judge on the Executive Jury of the Hult Prize hosted by the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting.
