BOGOTA- This alliance has the objective of contributing with the process of overcoming extreme poverty, in topics related to the food and nutritional security of approximately 6,000 families (some 30,000 people) in the departments of Guajira, Córdoba, Chocó, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo, Caquetá, Huila, Tolima, Meta, Arauca, Guaviare and Bajo Cauca Antioqueño.
This alliance will focus on a long term vision, in which each person or family develops solid capacities that allow them to overcome poverty. In order to achieve this objective both institutions have elaborated a work plan that includes mapping of the beneficiaries, necessary identification, an invitation to actively participate within national and local entities and the design of the technical assistance and respective training.
Moreover, food assistance will be part of the initiative, which will have as priorities the delivery of food items, home-style fortification with micronutrient powder for children under 5 years old, delivery of vouchers to pregnant women and women with small children, workshops about food and nutritional security and the delivery of the non-food kits, among others.
With this new agreement, WFP ratifies its commitment in the fight against hunger and undernutrition in Colombia. It is important to remember that the latest Food and Nutritional Security survey in Colombia (ESIN, in Spanish) reported that 42.7% of the population is food insecure.
