WFP Media Advisory: The United Nations’ Efforts to Stave Off Famine in Yemen to Be Featured at SDG Media Zone on Friday, 22 Sept.

NEW YORK – The U.N. World Food Programme’s executive director, David Beasley, will discuss the crisis of staving off famine in Yemen, where 17 million people have been pushed into hunger by ongoing fighting.

He will speak at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, 22 Sept., in the SDG Media Zone at UN Plaza at UN headquarters in New York. WFP staff members in Sana’a, Yemen, will join by video feed to provide first-hand accounts of what humanitarian aid workers face on the ground.

The SDG Media Zone is designed to engage people worldwide in the important conversations happening at the UN General Assembly this week, especially around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum is hosted by the UN in collaboration with the UN Foundation, Public Foundation and the President of the General Assembly’s Office.

The discussion will be webcast live at UN TV, here: http://webtv.un.org/watch/cr1-en/5567801369001
