Since the beginning of Ramadan, the Rotary Clubs of the UAE have matched each dollar donated to WFP, doubling the impact of every contribution while highlighting the needs of poor families who simply do not have enough food to break their holiday fast. Donations can be made online at wfp.org/ramadan or ar.wfp.org/Ramadan.
The initiative follows on the success of last year’s first-ever WFP Ramadan campaign, which raised enough funds to provide 400,000 school meals to children in need across the Middle East. This year, the campaign has been broadened to create a chain of solidarity across all Arab and non-Arab Muslim countries.
WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger Hend Sabry, a Tunisian actress, and WFP Celebrity Partner Sami Yusuf, a British recording artist have promoted the campaign through their social media networks. Both Sabry and Yusuf are proud and active advocates for WFP’s work in the region.
Several communications partners in the MENA region are also supporting the campaign, including JWT Kuwait, Pirana, EmailCiti and Socialize Agency. The premium automotive brand Audi has also promoted the campaign on its social media during the Holy Month.
With two weeks of Ramadan left, WFP invites its friends and supporters to continue supporting this campaign by using the hashtag #breaktheirfast on social media channels, placing web banners linking to the campaign or placing print ads in publications.
