Donation From Brazil Supports Food Assistance To Poor Paraguayans In El Chaco
26 February 2013
Destination of the Donation
This donation will extend humanitarian assistance for 60 days- through June 2013- to 870 families, who will receive assistance through the ‘Food for Work’ modality. Through this modality, families will receive food in exchange for their work in recovering their livelihoods, which were severely affected by floods in the Chaco in April of last year. The families who will benefit are mainly indigenous and peasants engaged in subsistence agriculture.
The cash donation will allow WFP in Paraguay to carry out local food purchases of up to 100 metric tonnes (MT) to strengthen the internal market, encourage commercialisation by small farmer organisations, and provide 52,200 rations of food.
