WFP manages a vast network of around 650 strategically-placed warehouses alongside many transport corridors, which are crucial to pre-positioning food stocks, as it allows WFP to be well-prepared for a sudden, onset emergency. If warehouses do not exist, WFP sets-up mobile warehouses to support any foreseen gaps in storage capacity.
In addition, a specialized commodity accounting and tracking system guarantees that stocks are accounted for throughout their journey -- from the moment they arrive in a port until they reach their final destination.
In locations with excessive heat or humidity, WFP utilizes temperature controlled warehouses where necessary. As some supplementary and nutritious food products are particularly sensitive to temperature, logisticians ensure they are handled with the utmost of care.
