Private Sector Logistics Partners
WFP Logistics partners with private sector companies to support operations in a myriad of ways, including strategic financial support, in-kind expertise and technical know-how, as well as services and products free of charge. Some companies partner with WFP independently, such as Renault Trucks, UPS and Caterpillar, while others come together in support of WFP as a consortium.
The formation of the Logistics Emergency Team (LET) is a great example of a unique multi-company public-private partnership initiative, where top tier logistics companies have joined forces with WFP to collectively respond to sudden, onset emergencies. Since its during the 2005 World Economic Forum (WEF), these emergency response teams have provided personnel and transport in a number of operations, including the 2013 response to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the 2014-15 Ebola Response.
Made up of three global logistics companies, LET brings together the logistics expertise and support of UPS, Agility, and A.P. Møller-Mærsk to WFP’s global operations through the Logistics Cluster, providing cost-free logistics personnel and transport. Logistics experts are either locally or internationally deployed from LET companies, offering a range of skills and knowledge.
In addition, partners also provide services and equipment that are vital in an emergency response such as:
