WFP Logistics & Private Sector Partners

WFP Logistics partners with private sector companies to support operations in a myriad of ways, including strategic financial support, in-kind expertise and technical know-how, as well as services and products free of charge.  Some companies partner with WFP independently, while others come together in support of WFP as a consortium.

PepsiCo is a global, recognized company with whom WFP has a strong partnership. Two years ago, PepsiCo began a focused collaboration with WFP Logistics by providing funding and technical expertise to improve WFP’s supply chain process. The scope of the project targets “core” WFP business—the food supply chain—which aims to strengthen operational efficiency and performance. Through this project, WFP is striving towards a reliable, agile and scalable supply chain that has the capacity to react efficiently—with respect to time and costs— to various changes in requirements such as volumes, commodities, etc.

The formation of the Logistics Emergency Team (LET) is a great example of a unique multi-company public-private partnership initiative, where top tier logistics companies have joined forces with WFP to collectively respond to sudden, onset emergencies. Since its during the 2005 World Economic Forum (WEF), these emergency response teams have provided personnel and transport in a number of operations, including the 2010 Haiti earthquake and cholera outbreak and the 2010 Pakistan floods.

Made up of three global logistics companies, LET brings together the logistics expertise and support of UPS, Agility, and A.P. Møller-Mærsk to WFP’s global operations through the Logistics Cluster, providing cost-free logistics personnel and transport. Logistics experts are either locally or internationally deployed from LET companies, offering a range of skills and knowledge.

In addition, partners also provide services and equipment that are vital in an emergency response such as:
• Warehouse space
• Offices
• Airlifts
• Shipping
• Trucking
