WFP Aviation - Partnerships
WFP Aviation has established a series of strategic partnerships with key, like-minded organisations to foster sustainable humanitarian aviation operations, including:
Aviation sans frontiers - France
WFP aviation operates in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in partnership with the NGO and humanitarian air service provider Aviation sans frontières-France to provide air transport for humanitarian and donor personnel in Equator and Oriental provinces. The service links Mbandaka and Kisangani/Bunia with various remote locations to give humanitarian actors timely access to beneficiaries. In 2011, a total of 3,988 passengers and 78 mt of light cargo were transported in 1,705 flying hours.
ECHO – ECHO Flight
The partnership between UNHAS and ECHO /ECHO Flight has established the Emergency Response Capacity in Entebbe in close liaison with the Regional Office of ECHO-Flight in DRC. ECHO flight experts conduct quality reviews of multiple UNHAS operations (CAR, Sudan, South, Sudan, Niger) by experts of ECHO Flight and reciprocal invitations to Aviation Workshops, events or training sessions are shared between UNHAS and ECHO/ECHO flight throughout the year.
With the aim to develop humanitarian air services within member states, WFP and ECOWAS are in the final stages of approval for the signature of an MoU aiming at developing their mutual cooperation in the aviation sector notably in terms of emergency response in the west Africa sub-region.
International Red Cross Committee – ICRC
Wherever ICRC and WFP/UNHAS are simultaneously present, local agreements are made for an effective mutual assistance within strict limits of their respective mandates. ICRC and WFP/UNHAS share capacity, fuel, supply agreements and coordinate with one another in line with the Memorandum of Understanding between WFP/ICRC.
