Evaluation: measuring results, sharing lessons
The Office of Evaluation (OEV) supports WFP in its efforts to achieve its strategic objectives through evaluation. Evaluations inform all stakeholders about the quality and effectiveness of policies, strategies and operations and the efficiency of their implementation.
- informs debate of strategic issues;
- contributes to actions that replicate success and correct mistakes; and
- serves accountability and learning.
These principles and WFP's means to institutionalize them are explained in the new 2016-2021 evaluation policy. WFP's Executive Board provides strategic guidance to the Office of Evaluation through the Annual Consultation on Evaluation.
OEV aims to:
- Embed evaluative thinking, behaviour and systems in WFP’s culture of accountability and learning, enhancing its contribution to ending global hunger.
- Ensure that evaluation is planned for, and evaluation findings and lessons are comprehensively incorporated into, all WFP’s policies and programmes.
- Set up a new model for WFP’s evaluation function, comprising centralized and demand-led decentralized evaluation, that produces independent, credible and useful evaluations managed in accordance with WFP’s Evaluation Quality Assurance System (EQAS) and WFP’s Decentralized Evaluation Quality Assurance System (DEQAS).

Annual Evaluation Report: synthesises evaluation findings during the year.
