The 2012 CFSVA in Malawi is a joint product of the National Statistics Office of Malawi and the World Food Programme. It is the second CFSVA to be conducted in Malawi. This CFSVA was informed by data from the third integrated household survey (IHS3). The IHS3 includes WFP’s standard food security modules in addition to an extensive household budget module. This data allows for new possibilities in food security analysis and reflects an important step in mainstreaming data collection for measuring food security.
The government of Malawi implemented the survey and the LSMS-ISA project of the World Bank supported the work on the IHS3 as part of a multi-donor support of the IHS programme. It is a nationally representative survey designed to provide information on various aspects of household welfare in Malawi, including food security.

The Government, WFP and other stakeholders have conducted standard measurements of food security, health and nutrition, which provided individual and household data along with important information for comparing among regions and livelihood zones.
