A total of 223,000 people, spread across different livelihood zones; the Mountains, Senqu River Valley, Foothills, and Lowlands are experiencing food deficit of 6-8% in 2013/14. Although cereal production improved during this consumption year (2013/2014), some households still run out of stocks.
Prices of 12.5kg pocket of maize meal for most part of 2013 were higher than those of 2012; however the prices started declining from September. There was a 3% drop in prices in November 2013 compared to November 2012.
The recent community and household surveillance (CHS) reported that more households than last year had adequate food consumption, yet they had low dietary diversity.
