When disaster strikes, the World Food Programme leads in providing life-saving assistance. Victims of natural disasters can lose everything in seconds, and a timely response makes the difference between recovery and prolonged suffering. Therefore, when governments request assistance during an emergency, WFP supports immediate relief efforts with rapid needs assessment, pre-positioned food, and expert response teams.

Between 2006 and 2008, Bolivia was hit by the inflationary phenomenon. From the second half of 2007 prices of food and beverages increased (according to INE) causing a decline in purchasing power for poorer families.

The EFSA was conducted between February 12 and March 5, 2008 in Bolivia, in coordination between WFP, partners and local institutions in the affected departments flooding.

WFP raised an operation of emergency in the most affected areas and conducted rapid assessments to determine the food security after the floods.
