JIMMA – Today the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) opened a third logistics base in western Ethiopia for cross-border delivery of vital food assistance into South Sudan, while calling for more funding to support urgent food and nutrition needs of South Sudanese seeking refuge in Ethiopia. Two additional aircraft will operate out of Jimma, bringing food to remote communities isolated by conflict and poor road conditions in South Sudan.

As tens of thousands of South Sudanese continue to flee their conflict-torn homeland, the heads of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) travelled to Ethiopia's border region of Gambella from neighboring South Sudan to meet refugees who recently fled the conflict.

ADDIS ABABA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today received 1,513 metric tons of rice, valued at US$718,000 (more than 13 million Ethiopian birr), from the Government of Brazil to assist refugees living in various camps in Ethiopia.
