ADDIS ABABA - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) today thanked the government of Japan for its generous and timely donation of US$11.8 million to assist South Sudanese refugees and the host community in Gambella regional state in western Ethiopia.

JIMMA – Today the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) opened a third logistics base in western Ethiopia for cross-border delivery of vital food assistance into South Sudan, while calling for more funding to support urgent food and nutrition needs of South Sudanese seeking refuge in Ethiopia. Two additional aircraft will operate out of Jimma, bringing food to remote communities isolated by conflict and poor road conditions in South Sudan.

ADDIS ABABA – As South Sudanese continue to flee their conflict-torn homeland, the United Nations World Food Programme in Ethiopia marks World Refugee Day with an urgent appeal for US$50 million to meet the needs of nearly 150,000 who have sought shelter here since the conflict began in December 2013–and for our larger refugee response.
