In 1999-2000, the world's poorest nations were repeatedly hit by both natural and man-made emergencies. From flooding in western Bangladesh and West Bengal in India to the collapse of the peace process in Sierra Leone, the number of humanitarian hot spots around the world demanding help from WFP and the international community continued to rise.
