All of us working in food aid are facing historic challenges today. I do not use that word lightly. Never before have there ever been such intense food crises --- in Iraq, in southern Africa, and in North Korea.
We are running short of food for refugees and displaced people in West Africa, for poor schoolchildren who have lost their parents to AIDS, and for Afghan families returning home after decades of violence. The threat of famine has returned again to Ethiopia with 11 million people hungry and another 3 million in jeopardy.
