Swaziland - Support to Vulnerable Groups Unable to Support Themselves

The cause of food insecurity in Swaziland is multifaceted however the most prevalent in recent years is drought. Seven consecutive years of poor rainfall in parts of the country have substantially impacted the nation's maize production which has led to food shortages in rural households. Over 70 percent of the population live in the rural areas and depend on small-scale farming of maize, the staple crop, as their main source of livelihood.
