Senegal - Food Security Assessment in Zones at Risk: Harvest 2011-2012, February 2012

Food insecure households are found mostly in areas where agricultural production was low due to the inadequate spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall during the 2011 rainy season. Food insecure households’ percentage is higher in Casamance than in the rest of the country, with all of visited households (100%) in Ziguinchor ZAR facing food insecurity, and nearly three quarters (71.4%) of them experiencing severe phases of it. Prevalence in Kolda and Sédhiou areas are respectively 87.5% and 84.4%. Apart from Casamance, prevalence in some regions such as Kédougou, Fatick (Tattaguine Rural Council), Kaolack and Saint Louis is at least 50%.
