Namibia - UNHCR/WFP Joint Assessment Mission: Osire, Refugee Settlement, October 2011
Joint Assessment Mission Report on the Refugee Settlement of Osire, Namibia, following the mission that took place in October 2011.
Since 1999 Osire received 23,000 Angolan refugees, and more refugees arrived after. At the moment of the report still remain 6,936 -62 percent from Angola, 29 percent from the Democratic Republic of Congo and 4 percent from Burundi.
The main findings are that 8.5 percent of the settlement population is severely food insecure (poor and borderline food consumption, with poor food access) and is still heavily dependent on food assistance to survive. A large majority of those in the Moderate Food Insecure category also depend on food assistance for the major component of their food consumption. Anaemia is also a significant public health problem.
