Chad - Post-Harvest National Food Security Assessment of Rural Households, December 2011

The results of the assessment show that 13.8% of households are severely food insecure (about 1,180,300 people), 27.7% are moderately food insecure (2,441,900 people) and 58.5% are food secure (5.429.500 people). A total of 3.6 million people are food insecure in the rural areas of Chad. Globally the results show a preoccupying food security situation when compared to the same period in 2010. A comparison of the result with the survey conducted in Eastern Chad in December 2010 shows a deterioration of the food security situation in the three eastern regions. Food insecurity has worsened between December 2010 to December 2011 respectively from 25.9% to 64.7% in the Sila, 40% to 61% in the Ouaddai and 23.9% to 44.8% in Wadi-Fira. The same trend is observed in the southern part of the country, where food insecurity increased from 32. 4% in December 2010 to 43.8% in December 2011.
