Bhutan - Food Security Assessment, June 2005

Food insecurity here is analyzed in terms of availability of food, access to food and utilization of food. Availability of food generally refers to production and physical availability of food in a given area. Access refers to economic access to food that is the purchasing power of the people concerned. Utilization refers to the proper use and consumption of food commanded by a household and its members from their entitlement. Food availability is a community level concern, its access is a household level concern and utilization is an individual level concern.
