WFP winter pre-positioning of nearly 33,000 mt of food continues. Thus far 27,400 mt (83 percent) of the total planned food has been dispatched to 18 provinces. The pre-positioning is for WFP normal activities to ensure a continued food supply to vulnerable communities in remote areas which become inaccessible during the harsh winter. The first snow fall of the winter in the mountains areas has already occurred.

Swine flue cases have been reported at nearly 800 to date. The GoA has declared an emergency situation and closed down all schools and educational institutions for three weeks. WFP has set up a Task Force to review the contingency plan. Tamiflu and equipments have been sent to all the Area Offices.

The construction of 25 girl schools boundary walls is being completed in Faryab province. The aim was to create girl friendly learning space and provide food insecure people with food assistance through WFP FFW activities. Royal Norwegian Embassy in Afghanistan provided the resources for the construction of these boundary walls. The pertinent community development council, parents and teachers committee also provided conducive support and contributions wherever necessary. The completion report on the project is being finalized.
