Making sure that beneficiaries get the right food at the right time is a crucial element to the success of WFP operations. The nutritional well-being of the people it serves is paramount. Indeed, the use of specialised nutritious foods in our operations has dramatically increased in the last years.
Thanks to a dedicated team within WFP that brought together eight organisations and three academic institutions, WFP is pleased to make available a new publication: “Managing the Supply Chain of Specialized Nutritious Foods’.
These guidelines aim to support the field operations of humanitarian organisations across the globe in better managing their supply chain of these products, consolidating best practices and providing practical guidance in a user friendly guide with answers to the most common questions.
Do you know how to detect and manage a food incident? Are you aware of how these products are best stacked? Are you aware of best practice for stock management of these products? These are just some of the questions that these guidelines can help to answer.
We invite you to consult the guidelines and diffuse them among your staff and partner organisations, noting that they are currently being translated into French and will be available in the coming months. The team is now working on a training module based on these guidelines.
