Campbell Canada Partners With WFP To Combat Child Hunger

Each time Canadians buy a can of Nourish – a new Campbell’s product which offers a complete meal in a can – the company will donate $0.25 to WFP to help fund the organization’s school meal programs for children around the world.

TORONTO – A new partnership between Campbell Canada and WFP will give the UN food agency $0.25 every time a Canadian buys a can of the food company’s new Nourish product. The money will go to support WFP’s school meals programs in 60 countries.

In addition to helping fund WFP projects, Campbell Canada will also donate an additional can of Nourish to Food Banks Canada every time a can is sold in a shop.

A first-of-its kind, nutrient-dense product intended to help address food security, Nourish is a complete meal with a full serving of three food groups.

“The launch of Nourish was inspired by our belief that we have a responsibility to make healthier foods that taste great and are accessible to all Canadians regardless of their economic situation or geographic region.  Since the launch, Canadians have expressed their support for Nourish, many with a desire to purchase it, to help in the fight against hunger,” says Philip Donne, president of Campbell Canada.

“By making Nourish available in stores across Canada, 100 per cent of Campbell’s Nourish net profits will fund hunger relief efforts including national donations to Food Banks Canada and global donations through the World Food Programme.”

“When children start the day hungry, they can focus on little else, including their school work,” said Nancy Roman, WFP’s Director of Communications, Public Policy and Private Partnerships. “Campbell Canada’s support will be a big boost to nourishing children, who can concentrate on their studies instead of worrying about where their next meal is coming from. Just 25 cents will fill a cup with a nutritious meal and a monthly ration to take home. It’s a powerful investment in the next generation.”

With the help of retailer partners equally committed to supporting hunger relief activities, Nourish will initially be available from May through July at grocery stores across Canada.  As of today, participating retailers include:  Federated Co-op, Loblaws (Real Canadian Superstores, Maxi), Longo’s, Metro, Overwaitea Food Group (Coopers, Price Smart, Save on Foods), Safeway and Wilson Foods.  Nourish has a suggested retail price of $2.49.
